Between 1981 and 1985 Stephen McCoy photographed areas of ground on which buildings had been, or were being, demolished. These areas were in different stages of destruction, clearance and re-development. In some case the re-development was swift with new construction taking place almost immediately. In other cases the land lay empty for years. The project was entitled "Demolition Sites" and was made using a 5x4 camera. Most photographs were taken in Liverpool, but several were taken in a district of Preston known as Plungington. The work was exhibited at The Open Eye gallery and other venues. In 2019 a selection of the work was published by Cafe Royal books.
